Advice for Eco-Driving
- Check tyre pressures regularly and before long journeys. If under-inflated your tyres have more rolling resistance and your car needs to use more fuel to move on.
- Remember to control your speed because high speed causes more fuel consumption, due to the exponential increase of aerodynamic resistance.
- Avoid sharp accelerations and heavy braking to save fuel and reduce accident rates.
- Use air conditioning sparingly as it significantly increases fuel consumption.
- Remove all accessories such as roof racks, bike carriers and roof boxes because they affect your car’s aerodynamics and reduce the fuel efficiency.
- Take extra weight off the car because it implies extra fuel consumption.
- Start the engine of your car only when you’re ready to go and switch it off when stopping if you plan to stop for more than 2 minutes.
- Drive within the speed limit because high speed causes more fuel consumption.
- Change to a higher gear when it’s possible to save fuel.
- When not necessary switch off all electrical systems on your car such as rear windscreen and demister blowers to decrease the consumptions.
